In Memoriam

On Sunday, January 29, 2006, Professor George M. Harper, the Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of English Emeritus, Florida State University, died after having suffered a stroke earlier in the week.  George was a former President of the College English Association, as well as a former Board member.  He was a well-known scholar in Romanticism and William Blake and in Irish Studies and William Butler Yeats.  He had served as chair of English at Florida State, chair of English at the University of Florida, and as Dean of Arts and Sciences at Virginia Tech.
