Eurosim 2010 - Widener University

Eurosim 2010 (pictures) took place at the University of Antwerp in Belgium.

The Widener University delegation represented Estonia, one of the newer members of the EU. Kate Culhane (GP '12) was the Prime Minister, Brian Nowicki (GP '11) was the Foreign Minister, Anna Vlasyuk (IR '11) was the Education Minister, Christin Camilli (GP '13) was the ECOFIN (Economics/Finance) Minister, and Charlotte Garfinkel (IR '13) was the Interior Minister.

In addition to those roles, Widener students also filled important non-state roles. Steven Scuderi (GP '11) played the president of the European Parliament, Christine Curry (GP '11) covered the Council Secretariat for the ECOFIN Council, and Hai Tu (GP '10) was the party coordinator for the EUropean Conservatives & Reformists (ECR) party group in the European Parliament.

Finally, Amanda Pipenberg (CJ/SOC '10) was the American student director and assisted in the assignment of alter-egos for participating universities, and once at EuroSim worked with the Belgian student director to insure that the entire simulation ran smoothly.

Estonia is one of "the 10"; member states that all joined the EU together in 2004. As a former Republic in the old Soviet Union, Estonia is particularly interested in maintaining polite, if not exactly warm, relations with its much larger neighbor, Russia.
